DESCRIPTION OF RACE
First run in 1960, the $AUD500,000 Patinack Farm Classic is run at Flemington Racecourse over 1200 metres (6 furlongs), with horses 3YO & Upwards carrying Standard Weight-for-Age. The race is conducted on a straight course, of a width of up to 30 metres, and with a field limit of 16 horses. The Flemington straight course, starting from a chute that joins the course proper, is perfectly flat. Riders usually take one side of the course or the other, to use the rail to guide their mounts, and sometimes the field “splits”. The Flemington racing surface was fully renewed after a total track reconstruction in 2007.
The course record for 1200m historically at Flemington is 1-07.16, set in 2001.
